Every year high school and college students from across the United States participate in an international competition known as D.E.C.A. - otherwise established as Distributive Education Clubs of America. D.E.C.A. focuses on marketing, management, and entrepreneurship in different areas of specialization such as business, finance, hospitality, and marketing sales and service. It teaches students skills they will not only use during high school and college, but also throughout their entire lives and careers.
D.E.C.A. is open to 9th through 12th graders and is available at a college level with Collegiate D.E.C.A. At a high school extent, it encompasses more than 219,000 students worldwide who are actively preparing for their futures.
When someone joins this club, they are giving themselves the opportunity to become more experienced in countless valuable skills. Being community oriented, professionally responsible, and having leadership skills is something both colleges and jobs look for in an applicant consistently.
Technical High School’s local competition at a district level is on February 6th, 2019, at Crossroads Center in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Students will present numerous competitive events in categories such as Team Decision Making, Business Operations, and Ownership & Management. Participating either as an individual or as a team, they will further their knowledge of marketing, presentation, and business.
From there, these scholars may have the chance to participate in a State Competition located in Minneapolis and can even go on to be apart of internationals this year in Orlando, Florida.
There are countless ways someone can prepare for their future with clubs such as D.E.CA. It is also simply an enjoyable and enlightening experience to be apart of and a way to engage in one’s community in a new way. D.E.C.A. is more than “competitions, blazers and medallions”. Joining D.E.C.A. is the first step you can take towards achieving your goals and realizing your greatest potential.
